Transforming Complexity into Clarity

Rethinking the user experience for the OCULUS Twinfield® 3

Oculus Optikgeräte GmbH

Twinfield® 3

The best technology is the kind that explains itself. For the new Twinfield® 3 visual field analyzer from OCULUS Optikgeräte GmbH, we had the opportunity to create a user experience that puts people at the center. Our focus was on presenting data in a clear and easily understandable way – reducing the workload for medical professionals and enabling reliable examinations for patients. Our goal: a device that not only measures with precision, but is also intuitive to use, simplifies processes, and integrates seamlessly into modern clinical environments.

Background and Challenge

In ophthalmology, accurate visual field measurement is crucial for diagnosing and treating visual impairments. Our client’s devices are used daily by clinicians who must interpret highly complex data quickly and confidently. Our challenge was to transform the visual and cognitive complexity of the existing user interface into clarity—without compromising scientific accuracy.

Concept and Approach

In diagnostics, time is valuable. That’s why we designed a contemporary user interface that intuitively supports workflows and reduces visual complexity. Modern UI elements, refined and more readable data visualizations, and guided step-by-step interactions ensure that both long-time users and newcomers can navigate the system effortlessly and make faster, well-informed decisions.

Status and Outlook

In our role as a UX partner, achieving a clean and unobstructed presentation was central to our work – and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Users report faster orientation, a modern and pleasant look & feel, and a noticeable reduction in cognitive load during analysis. Next, the product will continue to evolve, with new features and enhancements that unlock additional diagnostic potential and further strengthen clinical workflows.
